May/June 2010
Belize Greetings to All!
My apologies for being behind schedule with May & June newsletters, I have been busy and May was packed full of visitors. I would like to say THANK YOU to all those that came to visit in May.
Andrew Li from my home church came at the beginning of May and helped update the computers around the house, for Michelle and me. He also worked to get our internet functioning much smoother!
We also had a short visit from a group of awesome girls that helped us by giving a much needed cleaning to our house. THANK YOU to Lois, Bobbi, Susan, and Amanda for coming to help us out around the house for a few days. It was really great to meet you all and have your hands of help!
Lorrie Murdock also came to visit and help as well during the month of May. She arrived the day Andrew left and was here while the other girls where here. She helped with the cleaning and other daily activities here in Belize. THANK YOU to Lorrie as well for helping around the house and getting Youth Night ready for the next two months.
Michelle Update – Michelle is feeling much better! She is back and moving around, running errands and taking care of the girls like normal. Praise God for her healing and recovery!
Skype & Magic Jack – Michelle has changed internet providers for our house. This means that we no longer have a Land Line Telephone; however we now have the ability to use Skype and Magic Jack. Skype is set up and working so feel free to call me anytime! I do not have a webcam for video chat but I have a headset and I can hear and talk to you. My dad is also working on getting a Magic Jack mailed to Belize so that I can communicate with all of you cheaper and more often. I am really excited for these new forms of communication, so don’t be a stranger!
Step of Faith Church – The Men planned a wonderful Mother’s Day Service in May, it was a wonderful tribute to the mothers and there were about 200 in attendance. Next week the Ladies Ministry is planning a Father’s Day service for the Father’s in our church. Some new improvements have been made to the building to make it more comfortable for our crowd on Sunday Mornings. The Sunday school area has been extended to make more room for the kids, and some of the ladies have started a nursery for the children 3 years and younger. Sunday services are always an encouragement and time of growth for me!
Youth 4 Jesus – Youth Night is going well, we have recently gone through changes so we are making some adjustments. Andrew and Emilie are very busy with stateside teams coming to Oasis this summer, so they needed to cut back from Y4J. They are no longer with us on Saturday Nights. We miss them but understand their need to take a break, as they have a lot going on at Oasis Base with teams. This means that there is no longer a bus coming from Unitedville to pick up the youth from that side. For the month of May we sent the Belmopan Bus up to Unitedville to pick up the youth. Starting the first week of June, Pastor Robert has been driving his 12 passenger van to church each Saturday Night. This has been a huge blessing but it only allows for 12-15 youth to fit. As leaders we had to make a hard decision to choose who would get the spots in the van, we based it on participation, attendance and behavior. The others were allowed to come but needed to take the Public Bus. It has been an adjustment but everything is working out and the kinks are smoothing out. Our group is about 20-30 youth now instead of 50-60, which is definitely a more manageable number but it has been an adjustment for me in the planning of activities.
Our team of Youth Leaders; Edwin, Michelle, Anthony and I are excited for this summer with the youth. In the month of May we had a great Worship Experience, we asked the Worship Leader from the previous Legacy Concert to come and lead worship for our youth. It was a great night and I think the youth really enjoyed it. Their was a Strong Men’s Conference touring through Belize, so one Saturday the guys joined the men for the conference and the girls had a whole lot of fun! We had a 70s themed dance party! It was awesome; the girls really enjoyed being able to kick back, laugh, dance and have some fun! Coming up we have a service day at YWAM. Edwin shared the devotions for the month of May, and Michelle has been sharing for the month of June, last week she shared on being NUTS 4 JESUS!

Youth Worship Team – The Youth Worship Team is coming along. They have been asked to lead worship for Father’s Day, so they have been diligently preparing for this service. Thanks to Andrew Li for the donations of the MP3 players. The youth involved can now listen to and learn the music better. This summer I will be paying for 2 musicians to teach 4 of the youth music lessons. Edward will be learning the drums, Patrick and Bethany will be learning guitar and Marlun will be learning to play bass guitar. The youth are excited to learn new instruments, growing in the talent that God has gifted them with. It will cost me about $62.50 US each week to pay for all 4 students. If anyone is interested in helping with the cost of teaching them music, please email me and let me know.
GIRL TALK – Girl Talk was a success this year. School is done for the summer; therefore Girl Talk is done for the summer. We ended the year of Girl Talk just before finals; our final hurrah together was a trip to Jolina’s for Ice Cream. Twelve girls came out and my visitors were here at the time so they joined us. It was a great time of fellowship and laughs. I have already spoken to the Vice Principal at the school and set up things for Girl Talk next year.
Sponsor Girls – It is coming to the end of the school year; graduations and summer vacation are here. Thursday June 3rd, I attended the graduation of two of the girls that were sponsored this year. Anna and Evelyn graduated from Belmopan Comprehensive School. I was proud to see them walk across the stage and accept their diplomas. They both plan to find work for the summer. Evelyn would like to continue her education at University of Belize starting in January, so she is taking the necessary steps for her future. Emelita will also be graduating on Friday June 25th, from Belmopan Baptist Night School. I am proud of her as well, she worked extremely hard to improve her grades after the 1st term. Jacklyn finished her 1st Form year strong. Her exam grades will not be available until the end of June but I am confident that she passed and will be moving on to 2nd Form next school year.
I will still need a sponsor(s) for Jacklyn to go to school next year. I underestimated the costs last year and will be looking for a sponsor or sponsors to meet her need of $700 US for the coming school year. Since my other three girls have graduated I am sticking with just Jacklyn for this coming year because no one else has approached me and I really want to get an accurate account of the financial need of one. So please pray and decide if you would like to be a whole or partial sponsor for Jaclyn’s schooling. She is a wonderful young lady, who studies and works hard for her grades. I have been very impressed with her diligence this year. If you think this is something you would like to be a part of or contribute to please email me and let me know.

Trip to New York – Unfortunately I need to post pone my visit to New York this summer. I am just not able to leave at this time and will be making arrangements at another time. I would have loved to see and visit with you all but God has me in Belize for this summer.
What God is Teaching Me – In my time with God this week one of the verses I came across was Acts 20:24 “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me - the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace.” Some times we get caught up in the busyness of life, but Paul reminds us in Acts that we need to set out to do what God has for us, no matter where in the world we are. As Christians we need to share God’s grace with those around us.
Support – I ask you to continue to pray for how God wants you to be involved in the ministry He has me doing here in Belize, whether it be through prayer, financial support, encouragement, or even teams. Our God is a Big God and He is in control of everything and He knows and meets each of our needs! If you feel called to give financially please send money through World Outreach Ministries. If you are interested in visiting or encouragement please feel free to email me, I Love Hearing from You! And prayers are always needed! Please continue to pray that God would meet all my needs as I serve Him here in Belize for the long term. A big thank you to all of you have been a part of the ministry God has me doing in Belize through prayer, encouragement and finances. You are a blessing to me!
In Christ,
Rachel Studley
